FAQs:

How old do I need to be to become a Swim Teacher?

Swim teachers need to be 16 years of age to safely undertake training and work at Kingswim.

I don’t currently hold a swim teaching qualification – can I apply?

Yes! We take the hassle out of training to make your transition into Swim Teaching as smooth as possible. Unlike other training providers, Kingswim provides in-house training at a lower cost than other registered training providers that includes:

  • A learn to swim training program taking place over two afternoons, facilitated by Kingswim staff and accredited by Swim Australia
  • A suite of online modules that will teach you the proven Kingswim method, so you can begin your Swim Teaching career with confidence!
  • You’ll get hands-on experience during your 20 hours of accumulative training with one of our friendly qualified Swimming Teachers.

The completion of the course and subsequent accumulative training hours will result in a nationally- and internationally-recognised Swim Australia qualification.

What’s the process when I apply for a job?

If you’re shortlisted for a swim teaching role, you will be invited to a group interview conducted by the Kingswim team, followed by a conversation with the Centre Management team at your local site. If you progress further, you will be required to submit information and documentation as part of an external background check. If your police, working rights and reference checks come back clear, you will receive an invitation to our Kingswim training.

The Kingswim training program (affectionately referred to as “Boot Camp”) is an important step for all Kingswim teachers, regardless of whether you already hold a swim teaching qualification or not. At this training, you will learn the Kingswim method of learn-to-swim teaching.

Before, during and after this training, you will also be required to complete 20 hours of cumulative training (under the supervision of an experienced swim teacher) to be signed off as ‘ready to teach’ and to receive your qualification. Our Centre Managers are experts in the accreditation process and can guide you through every step of the journey to receive your qualification.

Can I apply for a role at multiple Kingswim centres?

Yes, you can apply for a role and teach at more than one Kingswim centre but for the purposes of recruitment only one centre will manage the process of interviewing, training and on boarding.

What types of shifts are available?

Kingswim programs primarily run at the following times:

  • Weekday morning shifts (which can run anywhere from 8:30am until 12pm)
  • Weekday afternoon shifts (which can run anywhere from 3:30pm until 7:30pm)
  • Weekend morning shifts (which can run anywhere from 7:30am until 1:00pm)

While many of our centres run through the week, some Kingswim centres have restricted programs during the week. Seasonal opportunities also exist to assist with school swimming between morning and afternoon shifts through the week.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer to teach?

You don’t need to be an elite or strong swimmer to teach at Kingswim. What matters is that you have a passion for working with and developing children and that you’re comfortable being in the water. At Kingswim, you’ll get all the training you need. You’ll learn how to confidently and safely deliver a variety of kids swimming lessons, from baby swimming classes to advanced lessons for our future superstars.
