ACT Leave

ACT Leave manages portable long service leave in the ACT for workers in covered industries, including building and construction, security, the community sector, and the services industry.
Long service leave is typically earned after staying with the same employer for many years. But in these industries, workers often move between employers, work casually, or take contract jobs, making it harder to reach an entitlement. Portable long service leave allows you to build your entitlement even if you change jobs or work for multiple employers, as long as you continue working in the same industry.
You may be entitled to portable long service leave if you’re an apprentice, a self-employed contractor, or working full time, part time or casually in a covered industry and performing eligible work. You can even take a break from the industry (for up to four years) without losing what you’ve already earned.
ACT Leave records workers’ service across employers and processes long service leave payments when eligible workers choose to take a break. We help workers understand their rights and make sure their entitlements are protected.
